Busy today, so just a brief note on two drugs/poisons from the ancient world…

HEMLOCK
A tall poisonous parsley-like plant with clusters of small white flowers. Price 75 gp.
THIRD EDITION RULES:
Ingested DC 17; Addiction Negligible
Initial Effect: The user falls asleep for 2d4 hours and takes 1d4 points of Constitution damage.
Secondary Effect: 1d4 points of Constitution damage.
Side Effect: If the user takes the poison willingly, while suffering from its effects (and possibly sleeping), the user may make a Wisdom DC 15 check. If successful, they receive an augury.
Overdose: If the user takes a fatal double dose of hemlock, the secondary effect is 1d10 points of Constitution damage.
FOURTH EDITION RULES:
Hemlock is a poison; it isn’t possible to become addicted to it.
Poison Effect: +10 vs. Fortitude; the target takes 2d6+4 poison damage plus 10 ongoing poison damage (save ends).
First Failed Save: The target is slowed (save ends).
Second Failed Save: The target falls unconscious.

THORN APPLE
THIRD EDITION RULES:
A plant with white trumpet-shaped flowers. It is used by some soldiers to dull the emotions before a battle. Price 15 gp.
Ingested DC 9; Addiction Low
Initial Effect: 1d3 points of Wisdom damage and 1d3 points of Charisma damage.
Secondary Effect: The user becomes mentally numbed for 1d4 hours, gaining a +4 bonus on saving throws against pain and fear effects.
Side Effects: None.
Overdose: If the user takes more than one dose in a 24-hour period, they immediately fall unconscious (Fortitude DC 15 negates).
FOURTH EDITION RULES:
Power (Consumable): Standard action. The target gains a -2 to all Charisma and Wisdom-based skills and attacks. They also gain +5 on saving throws against fear. These effects last until the end of the encounter.
Addiction Attack: +4 vs. Will; roll once per dose. Insight or Endurance; improve DC20, maintain DC14, worsen DC13 or less.
Initial Effect: The target gains a -2 to all Charisma and Wisdom-based skills and attacks. They also gain +5 on saving throws against fear. If the target is prevented from taking thorn apple, they take -4 to all Charism and Wisdom-based skills and attacks.
Secondary Effect: The target is slowed. This effect applies until the target is cured.
Final Stage: The target gains resist 5 psychic. Numb to sensation, they gain -4 on Initiative, and -5 on saving throws against charm (sleep) effects.
